Lucy graduated from high school at 17 and had enrolled in Medical School until the NAZIs annexed Austria, expelling all Jewish students.
In 1939 she was a nurse in England not able to speak English. The official start of WWII was declared just as her parents came to England. This was 1940 during the Blitz where Lucy had a non-exploding bomb drop 20 feet in front of her. They came to Detroit when a U.S. sponsorship came through.
With a scholarship she completed a B.S. and 1 year later a M.S. in chemistry from Wayne State. In a night math class Lucy met a thin man named Bernie. During lecture breaks he gave her pennies to pitch, which led to their marriage in 1952.
Lucy worked for Ethyl as an organic chemist for the next 10 years which led to her filing a patent. After time out for raising children she entered academia which lasted 22-years at LIT.
