Morris Fixler grew up in Mukacevo, where his father, Lazar, owned a winery and land, and his mother, Sarena, helped in the business. He survived the Mukacevo ghetto, was in hiding in Budapest, and endured imprisonment in Bergen-Belsen concentration/labor camp. He married Lillian Altman in 1945 in Budapest.
Morris credited a Zionist organization for giving him the drive to survive and left a powerful message for future generations: “Survive and settle in Israel. Do not forget the Holocaust”.
